By Guilherme C. Fraga LaTeX is a powerful typesetting language for document preparation that is widely used for the production of papers, theses and dissertations, slide presentations and posters. This short course will provide an overview on LaTeX, with focus on its applications in academia. The basis of the language will be presented, including the typesetting of equations and tables, the positioning of floating elements such as figures and tables, the usage of cross-references and bibliography, and the customization of the document layout. More advanced topics will also be discussed, such as: the package beamer for producing slide presentations and posters; creation of custom commands and environments; and how to draw and plot graphics in LaTeX. The course is intended for both people who have never used LaTeX and for those who have some familiarity with the language.
