Palestra: "Detailed hydrodynamics in and around coastal canopies"

palestra-ppgoceano-02-2018

Arnold van Rooijen (University of Western Australia). Abstract: "Coastal canopies, such as seagrass meadows, mangrove forests and coral reefs, can be found along many of the world’s coastlines. These systems are recognized as ecologically invaluable and generally have an important function in stabilizing sediments and maintaining coastal stability. However, relatively little is known to date about the specific (fundamental) hydrodynamics and sediment dynamics in and around these systems, as compared to sandy coastal environments. In this talk, Arnold will provide an update on his PhD research at University of Western Australia in which he uses hydraulic laboratory experiments and numerical modeling to better understand the detailed hydrodynamics in and around coastal canopies."
